1. Policy Statement

MEL is committed to protecting the health, safety and welfare of its employees, workers, candidates and other persons affected by its recruitment and staffing activities.

MEL will seek to identify relevant risks and take reasonable measures to control them.

2. Scope

This policy applies to MEL employees, workers and contractors and informs MEL's approach to temporary assignments and placements with client organisations.

3. Responsibilities

4. Client Responsibilities

For temporary assignments, clients remain responsible for providing appropriate information, site-specific instruction, supervision and workplace controls within their areas of responsibility.

MEL will seek appropriate information from clients regarding known risks and assignment requirements.

5. Assignment Risk Information

Before supplying workers where appropriate, MEL may obtain information regarding:

  • role duties;

  • known hazards;
  • required training;
  • personal protective equipment;
  • working hours and shift arrangements;

  • other assignment-specific safety requirements.

6. Incident Reporting

Accidents, injuries, near misses, unsafe conditions and other significant safety concerns should be reported immediately to the appropriate site manager and to MEL where the worker is supplied by MEL.

7. Healthcare Assignments

Healthcare workers may be subject to additional requirements relating to infection prevention, moving and handling, clinical environments, safeguarding, professional standards and client-specific procedures.

8. Hospitality, Logistics, Facilities and Security

Assignments may involve specific risks including machinery, manual handling, food production, cleaning chemicals, working at height, vehicles, loading areas, site security or other operational hazards.

Workers must follow the relevant client site procedures and only undertake duties for which they are appropriately trained or authorised.

Where a role requires specific training or competence, MEL may verify relevant evidence before placement or require client-provided induction or training.
